DELICIOUS FRIED TOFU

This is a simple and easy gluten free , keto recipe.

For this you need firm tofu. Your local grocery may sell firm tofu. It comes in about 14 -16 oz or 1 pound packs.

INGREDIENTS

1 lb. of firm tofu

3 tablespoons of healthy cooking oil

4 tablespoons of tomato puree

1 tablespoon of dark soy sauce

1 heaped teaspoon of onion powder

1 heaped teaspoon of garlic powder

1 heaped teaspoon of mustard paste

1/4 teaspoon or less of cayenne pepper powder

1 heaped teaspoon of powdered sweetener (stevia or monk fruit sweetener)

1/2 teaspoon black pepper powder

Salt to taste

A handful of finely chopped cilantro leaves

PREPARATION

Remove the slab of firm tofu from the package and drain the liquid completely.

Place the tofu between paper towels and press it to release and drain all the liquid.

Now place the tofu slab on your cutting board and slice it like slicing bread. Cut into 8 or 10 slices.

In a large pan add 3 tablespoons of cooking oil and heat it.

When oil is hot arrange the tofu slices in the pan individually without overlapping on each other.

Now sprinkle salt and black pepper powder on the slices of tofu in the pan.

Allow the slices to roast for 3 minutes. Now turn the slices one at a time and allow them to roast on this side for 3 minutes.

In a bowl mix the tomato paste, mustard paste, soy sauce, garlic and onion powder, cayenne pepper and powdered sweetener. Mix them together till well combined.

Now pour this mixture on the tofu in the pan.

Gently turn each tofu slice so that the sauce gets cooked in the pan.

After a minute or two turn the tofu slices again, the sauce is now thick and dark and coats each tofu slice with a beautiful dark color. Gently turn all the tofu with a spatula so that they are evenly coated with the spices. The tofu is nice and roasted so they will not break.

Now taste and add more salt if desired.

Remove from pan and place on your serving plate and garnish with finely chopped cilantro leaves. Enjoy as a snack or a side dish.
